The Store from River Road is the product of two craftsmen's shared passion for creating functional pottery. Mara and Tim Neske's first 6 years of business were spent traveling the east coast selling their original hand-crafted house wares at various craft fairs and department stores. This experience brought them in contact with many fine artisans who shared the same values of craftsmanship and aesthetic functionality. The original Store on River Road was founded in 1982 in Fair Haven, New Jersey, as a showcase for these artisans. The Store's organic name was given to allow the space and atmosphere created there to dictate its true nature. After 17 years in Fair Haven, The Store has evolved into one of New Jersey's most highly respected purveyors of quality American crafted home furniture. It is at this point in the story where the curious name "The Store" becomes most poignant˜in 1998, the Store on River Rd became the Store from River Rd when it moved to its current location, Shrewsbury, NJ. While there is not a River Road in Shrewsbury, this small fact only serves to highlight that at the heart of the Store is a commitment to small American companies and craftspeople in the home furnishing industry˜we know our roots.
